Barn owls and a marsh harrier (distant), but no hen harriers

Yesterday I joined the RPS raptor followers in the Boardwalk Hide at Wicken Fen in the hope of seeing the hen harriers coming in to roost; Sadly we saw no hen harriers which would have been a treat, but we caught a couple of barn owls in the fading light and a very distant marsh harrier (Oh, and a sedge head whist I was waiting!)

Shooting in the dark

When I arrived at Southend RFC at 1.00 pm and it already seemed dark, I was worried about taking decent rugby shots at 2.00.  I then discovered that kick-off was to be at 3.00 under lights.  I think that the lights were the new eco bulbs and they didn't warm up for ages!  However, thanks to the wonders of modern digital sensors and Photoshop, I was quite pleased in the end.

Cambridge outclass Barnes....

On a cold afternoon where I spent the first half of the afternoon with the sun shining directly at me, or with heavy storm clouds lowering and threatening, Cambridge beat Barnes by 62-15. In a game which was initially tipped towards the hosts when the Barnes wing threequarter was required to spend 10 minutes kicking his heels in the sin-bin whilst Cambridge racked up three quick tries.  Thereafter there was no way back for the unfortunate visitors
